New School Graduate Recognized as 2015 National Poet
10/8/2015 – Eileen Huang, a graduate of The New School of Monmouth County and a sophomore at High Technology High School, was recognized at the White House as one of five students chosen as a 2015 National Poet to represent the Northeast region of the United States. The ceremony was hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama.
The President’s Committee on Arts and Humanities and the Institute of Museum and Library Services partner with the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers to present the National Student Poets Program (NSPP). The program is the country’s highest honor for youth poets presenting original work.
In her personal statement, Eileen spoke of how a teacher at The New School encouraged her to continue writing poetry and made her realize that her voice as a writer was just as important as anyone else’s. Eileen stated she would like to encourage other people her age to write poetry.
We are proud of Eileen and all of her accomplishments!
Nestled in the heart of Holmdel, The New School of Monmouth County is one of New Jersey’s best-kept private school secrets, having successfully educated scores of children since 1969.
Small, multi-aged classrooms provide an intimate setting where students receive individualized attention from the teachers, learn from each other, are responsible for each other, and gain a new perspective of what it means to belong to a group larger than just one’s peers.
This NJ private school utilizes project-based learning which takes into consideration the input of students. With this approach, students reach a deeper understanding of the subjects being taught and are often found exploring these subjects — on their own accord — long after the school day has ended. Project-based learning allows the children to be self-motivated thinkers who will look beyond the basic material that is placed before them.
Leadership skills and empathy are learned from teaching younger children, and self-confidence develops from sharing with older students. Cooperation, an invaluable asset in today’s business world, is fostered from the moment the children start their education at The New School of Monmouth County.
This NJ private school is not only teaching, we are cultivating a life-long love of learning, inspiring intellectual curiosity, and nourishing an unquenchable thirst for knowledge.
