A note from Susan

Dear New School Alumni & Families,

I hope everything is going well with your family, work, education, etc. and I am really hoping that I will hear from you in response to this letter.

If you would prefer to see the video version of this letter, you can view it below.

They say that every cloud has a silver lining.  I was out of circulation for some time this year following a hip replacement so I worked on more sedentary things, since fortunately my brain and hands are still operational.  We are working on contacting as many alumni as possible via phone or email.

Our website is now well established and maintained by one of our parents who is anxious to have input from as many alumni as possible.  Writing a personal blurb about your New School experience and/or present situation would be great or you can fill out a brief survey.

Another of our parents is spearheading a “membership drive” (inspired by NPR) to invite alumni and their parents to support the future of the school by pledging to a fundraising drive. You can learn more about this by clicking here.

Since the creation of “Susan’s Dream Fund” in 2007 by Rhonda Uretsky a graduate parent who had been at the school 16 years, we have received donations toward the addition of a large all-purpose room and our goal is to raise an additional $250,000 this year with the goal of breaking ground before I turn 70.

It is an ambitious goal, but with my new hips I will be ready to produce a fantastic New School play in the new room so it needs to be built!  (It is significant I think that my first hip replacement was in 2007!)

Another ongoing need at The New School is for scholarship funds which are used to support scholarships for parents who encounter financial difficulties during their time at the school and to help subsidize work scholarships which are a significant item in our budget.  With the economy being what it is and families still trying to recover from Hurricane Sandy, your support of this program is especially appreciated.

If you would like to contact me directly, I would love to hear from you.   My cell phone number is (732) 778-7504 and my email address (yes, I now have email!) is snash0546@yahoo.com.

Sincerely,

Susan
